I'm Samantha, the breeder behind DreamHaven Kennel located in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I love the dachshund’s breed. I tell my husband all the time, if everyone just had one weenie dog, the world would be a happier please. I am currently transitioning my breeding program to focus on bred preservation. Stay tuned for some exciting news!
Q. & A. with Samantha
Why did you start breeding?
I fell in love with the dachshund breed in 2013. My first dachshund was a birthday gift to my daughter, her name is Penny. She is the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever met. She loves babies, and young kids the most. Penny gave us one litter of babies, and it was so rewarding. I truly enjoy showing, training, and breeding my dogs. I strive to produce healthy, good temperament pets.
What makes your program special?
I have rigorously studied the Dachshund AKC Standard, and continue to learn and grow from the great breeders around me. I consider each dog in my program based on health, temperament, and conformation. All my parent dogs are health tested. I also am active in AKC events like Conformation, Trick Dog, and more.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies have longhaired coats. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Memphis
Memphis is a AKC Champion. He is a beautiful blend of the European and American bloodlines. His Dam is a Russian import out of the Highly Respected "Littl Fut Kennel". Memphis's paternal grandsire Levi is an AKC Grand Champion, and was imported from Africa out of the "Karonika Kennel". His pedigree was carefully curated to include both AKC and International Champions on both side of his pedigree.
Merits: He recently passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen, AKC Novice Trick Dog title, and we are currently working toward his Intermediate Trick Title. Memphis is very smart and loves to please, training him has been such a joy for me.

DreamHaven Kennel reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dachshunds.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation , Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
