Meet the breeder

I'm the breeder behind Scotties By Stout located in Milo, IA. We are a small Scottish Terrier breeder. We have a small farm with horses, a donkey, chickens, cats, and Scotties! Our Scotties enjoy roles as full-time house dogs and part-time adventurous farm dogs. They take these duties very seriously. ❤️ Each of our Scotties meets OFA breed health testing requirements. Test results are on file with OFA. We look forward to connecting with you!

Q. & A. with Katie

  • Why did you start breeding?

My husband and I have been breeding Friesian Sporthorses for several years, building up our small farm and reputation in the horse world. As we've grown older, we decided to research and begin breeding Scotties. I had great experiences growing up with the breed and want to share that joy with future Scottie families.
  • What makes your program special?

Each of our dogs are AKC registered and have been health tested according to OFA Scottish Terrier breed standards. We take pride in including our Scotties in everyday life, meaning they are exposed to various human and animal visitors, camping, and even join us in checking horses for feeding time. Our dogs get to balance life as spoiled indoor dogs with that of adventurous farm dogs. This makes for very welcoming and fun Scottish Terrier "breed ambassadors".
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include brindle, wheaten, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

We can’t say enough good things about Scottie’s by Stout. Katie was fast to answer any questions we had on the purchase process through Good Dog and it couldn’t have been simpler. She kept us informed on the puppies through many video updates which let us get to know each puppies little personality. You can really tell Katie loves what she does, and it shows in how happy the parent dogs are. Even after bringing our Ethel Mae home, she has kept in contact and loves to share updates on her Facebook of all the puppies in their homes. We already have thoughts of a little boy puppy and will definitely be using Scottie’s by Stout again!

Abigail is an absolute joy. She is smart, funny, loving, and absolutely gorgeous. We could not recommend SBS enough!

From beginning to end, the entire process with Katie at Scotties by Stout was seamless and pleasurable. From learning about the backgrounds and lineage of the dam and sire, the purchase process through Good Dog to advice and recommendations going forward related to training, toys, behavior, health, etc. One of my very favorite aspects of doing business with Katie were the frequent video updates with the mama and litter. You felt like and actually were more involved and informed about your new family member. Katie is exceptional at what she does and has a true love of animals.
