During this month, your puppy still should do only Flexibility, Balance, and Proprioception exercises in his fitness program. That means no strength-training exercises yet. Your pup should be finalizing its progress on other areas, like manners, such as house-training and crate-training, and S.T.A.R. Puppy skill training.

  1. Warm up every session by playing with your puppy for a few minutes until your pup is open-mouthed breathing, then doing Downward Dog, Cat Pose and Crescent Moon.
  2. Train 3 days a week, three Flexibility and two Balance and Proprioception exercises each session for optimal progress.
  3. Include Good for the Soul activities, such as off-leash walks and swims/wading, at least once a week, ideally more often.
  4. Cool down your pup after each session by walking slowly and then spending quiet time together for a few minutes.
  5. In 30 days, redo the Fit For Life – Puppy Under 6 Months Series form to go on to the next step in the program.

Don’t forget the treats!  Most of all, you need lots of tiny, yummy treats to keep your pup motivated. Download the equipment and treat list here.

Your pup’s schedule includes all previous exercises plus:

  • Crescent Moon, your pup’s third flexibility exercise
  • The Ladder, an extremely valuable balance and proprioception exercise
  • Truckin’ Dog, a fun and useful balance and proprioception exercise
