I'm Catherine A., the breeder behind AdamsAcres Rat Terriers located in Checotah, OK. Each of AdamsAcres sires and dams are tested and certified with OFA for Cardiac, Patella, Hips, LCP, Elbows, and DNA tested for PLL and PRA-PRCD. We have been breeding rat terriers for over 20 years and tend to shy away from whats popular in the ring, keeping the true image of the rat terrier. That being said, we are proud to boast 2 of our females in the past 3 years have been invited to Westminster and have walked away in the ribbons. One Best Opposite and one Select Bitch. Not all of our dogs are show dogs and we prefer pet homes for our litters with very few going to breeding/show homes. We are firm that any dog that cannot be kept in the new family's home, irregardless of age, must return to AdamsAcres to either stay or placed in an approved home. Why did you start breeding?
I did not always "do it right" but quickly learned from great mentors the importance of producing healthy and quality pups focusing on health, temperament, and standard.What makes your program special?
I do my best to preserve the breed as intended and not conform to the fads. My dogs are as comfortable in a NYC apartment as they are on a farm or ranch. My puppies have consistently placed in the ring showing drive and beauty.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

“Price includes 2 full sets of shots (NeoPar & NeoVacDA2), multiple dewormings, tails and dewclaws docked/removed, microchip, and vet check. Puppies are exposed to many challenges and sounds in the home and outside of the home. People, loud noises, sudden movement, handling, and of course cuddling. Their playpen consists of stairs, teeter boards, beams and lots of toys. Refundable.”

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
Legg-Calve-Perthes (OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Primary Lens Luxation (PLL), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
