Meet the breeder

I'm Cali M., the breeder behind Alloy Sighthounds located in Clallam County, WA. Current plans are for a 2027 litter- not reviewing applications until then. Thank you for your interest!

Q. & A. with Cali

  • Why did you start breeding?

I purchased my first Silken Windhound in 2019 and quickly realized I wanted to be a part of caring for these magnificent dogs in any way I could. My foundation girl was purchased in 2022.
  • What makes your program special?

Puppies will be raised with extensive socialization following Avidog and Puppy Culture practices. Early socialization is extremely important to me as a behavior professional, as I have seen first-hand the effects of inadequate socialization at critical periods. My dogs are beloved pets first, I want my puppies to also fill that role for their future families.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Excellent level

Alloy Sighthounds reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Silken Windhounds.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
