Why did you start breeding?
After Cristi lost her vision and it was determined she would not regain it, Cristi and Bruce began searching for a Portuguese Water Dog. On July 18, 2002, Cristi and Bruce brought a small, black wavy bundle of energy home. After a couple of different trials, his call name became Jack. He had two speeds: dead run and dead asleep. This was the beginning of a wonderful journey into PWDs.What makes your program special?
Cristi and Bruce are members of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America (PWDCA). Cristi is also a member of Movers & Shakers PWD Club of the Carolinas, Kanawha Obedience Training Club and Magic Valley Kennel Club. We believe strongly in health testing, especially the tests recommended for the breed by the parent club.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Microphthalmia Syndrome (PES), Juvenile Dilated Cardiomyopathy, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Coat/Trait Panel, GM1 Gangliosidosis, Portuguese Water Dog Type, Early Onset Progressive Retinal Atrophy (EOPRA)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
