I'm Dave K., the breeder behind Bird Dog Ranch located in Osceola, MO.
Q. & A. with Dave
Why did you start breeding?
Ive had alot of Shorthairs and a few special ones that stood out among the rest. When I have purchased outside my bloodlines I have had trouble finding dogs that measure up to my expectations.
What makes your program special?
I breed for the average person, the foot hunters that care about the dogs and hunting birds, Im not interested in titles or competitions. I want a dog that can hunt wild birds and is a pleasure to live with.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include liver and white, liver roan, black and white, white and liver, and black roan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Riley, mom
German Shorthaired Pointer
About Riley
Riley is a very easy dog to hunt with as she has alot of prey drive but wants to please her owner. She is a natural retriever and loves the water. She is very smart and learns easily. Riley is loaded with natural ability and passes that onto her pups.
Rex, dad
German Shorthaired Pointer
About Rex
Rex is a phenomenal dog in and out of the field. He has a great on/off switch. He hunts hard and is easy to handle. He loves the water and is a natural retriever. Rex has a ton of natural ability and passes that on to his pups. Rex is my personal hunting dog and in the off season Rex does dock diving to keep in shape. Rex has a DS dock title.
Bird Dog Ranch reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shorthaired Pointers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
