Blue Shamrock Tornjak

Breeder of Tornjaks

Meet the breeder

I'm Katie F., the breeder behind Blue Shamrock Tornjak located in Oxford, MI. Blue Shamrock Tornjaks is home to working Tornjak livestock guardian dogs. Our dogs live and work with the livestock daily. Our dogs are livestock-safe with cattle, horses, llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, peafowl, geese, turkeys, ducks, chickens, quail, and cats. We have a mobile petting zoo, and the Tornjaks work hard to ensure everyone stays healthy and safe. We pride ourselves on family. The Tornjaks and people work together to form bonds, as Tornjaks and their shepherds did in the old days. The Tornjaks learn to protect their livestock using positive methods. We do not believe in adverse methods such as e-collars. Our dogs raise the young puppies in order to allow the puppies to learn the teaching methods of their ancestors. Our dogs are health-tested for hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and DNA with OFA, PennHIP, Wisdom Panel DNA testing, CERF, and other tests as needed. As Tornjaks are a rare breed in North America, we encourage all purebred Tornjak owners to obtain OFA hips and elbows, Pennhip hips, and WisdomPanel DNA testing to increase the database for comparison. When breeding, we adhere to the breed standard and health testing. As there are very few Tornjaks in North America, we choose our breeding carefully. We consider health and temperament when choosing breeding pairs. We do not breed dogs with OFA moderate or severe hips, in an effort to improve the health of the breed in North America. There are no Tornjaks listed with OFA excellent hips yet, so the choices are limited. Our dogs' results are provided on our websites with links to the testing profiles. We aim to improve the Tornjak breed with each pairing by breeding up while balancing temperament and health-testing. We hope to help the Tornjak breed advance from AKC FSS to AKC Misc to AKC fully recognized. Please contact us to be added to our waitlist. When matching a puppy, we do consider whether the puppy is best suited for pet homes or working homes. Our puppies come AKC and UKC registered. Our dogs thoroughly enjoy their lives - working on the farm, playing with the other Tornjaks, learning new skills, and going to shows. They live in my home.
