I'm Belinda D., the breeder behind Buffalo Creek Kennel located in Talihina, OK. Buffalo Creek Kennel was born out of the idea of preservation of original breed qualities. As a trainer, hunter, field trialer, and pet owner, I am all too well educated in how breeding for the wrong reasons have impacted the sound qualities of our hunting dogs. At BCK we are doing our best to preserve the qualities that are getting watered down or eliminated through unethical breeding such as health, temperament, and working ability. These elements are too important to compromise over the latest trends in breeding.

The puppies turn 7 weeks old. Today. They had their first vet visit where they received a puppy exam, their first vaccine, and a microchip. Doc Beasley was very impressed with the litter.

Today's educational topic is on Coats! The hallmark of this breed is the wiry, harsh coat. People who are new to the breed, or not familiar with the breed, think the puppies that look the most like the adults when they are young are going to be the ones with the perfect coat. This is typically not the case. If they're showing coat at a young age, that means they're going to have an abundance of coat as an adult. There are some exceptions. I'm going to show you pictures of the sire between 11 or 16 weeks and then pictures of him now so you can see what I'm talking about. The first picture is about 10 to 11 weeks. The second picture is after he arrived here in the US and probably between 12 and 16 weeks. The third and fourth picture are pictures as an adult. So you can see how the coat develops from a pup to an adult. In order to get a tighter more correct coat, you want to pick a puppy that has less coat at an early age. This is important if you are a hunter as you don't want to have to deal with a heavy coat unless you like to hunt in snow or very cold water while waterfowl hunting. Those are probably the situations where a heavier coat would be ideal, although you're still going to have to strip it on occasion to keep it crisp. ALL the puppies in this litter are coated. That means all will have the wiry coat the breed is known for. Some more. Some less. If anyone has questions about coat care or what to look for as far as a proper coat, please contact me and I will answer any questions.
