I'm Barbara D., the breeder behind Calypso Kennel located in Grovetown, GA. In 2023 I became the only AKC Breeder of Merit. I believe in well rounded dogs that are conformationally correct, great performance dogs & are 1st & foremost a loved family member. Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding out of a passion to preserve & protect the breed. With a need for genetic diversity & dogs clear of genetic issues I bred my first litter after 4 years of research. I have breed partners & mentors all over the world that I work with & continue to learn from.
What makes your program special?
I am verifiably the ONLY AKC Breeder Of Merit for Peruvian Inca Orchids. Puppies are raised in my home alongside my family. Not only do I use Puppy Culture, I also incorporate additional stimulation such as sensory mats & music /sound therapy. Parents are DNA tested to look for genetic markers & Parents CHIC (OFA ) . Showsight Magazine interviewed me for the Misc/FSS special issue in 2023.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies include medium and large sizes. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat types in your program?
Our puppies include coated and hairless coat varieties. Coat types may vary depending on the parent dogs.

Getting a puppy from Barbara

Barbara has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.

Barbara partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 8 weeks old.

"I am looking for a forever family for my puppies, so careful consideration is taken. At 8 weeks we asses the puppies to determine if they are show or pet, then look at our list to then match the right puppy to the right home. "

Price

Puppy prices include a $1,100 deposit and between $1,100 - $2,900 final payment, before taxes & fees.

"Pricing based on hairless or coated. Pet or show potential. Deposits taken after successful reference checks and contract. Once Litter is on the ground."

Contract & health guarantee

Barbara may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
