Meet the breeder

I'm Sarah C., the breeder behind Carter's Dalmatians located in Fort Dodge, IA. My pups are bred for health & versatile athleticism with temperament as my focus. The parents have titles in AKC Temperament, CGC & FastCat with experience in Rally. Puppies are raised in-home with their parents and human 'siblings'. You can expect a lovable companion with our pups.

Q. & A. with Sarah

  • Why did you start breeding?

When I was younger, my parents had 2 litters of miniature dachshund pups. I had just begun working as a vet assistant and it was so fascinating the genetic aspect of the coat colors and traits the pups exhibited that were seen in the parents.
  • What makes your program special?

My goal for all of my pups is to give them the best start for their forever homes. All pups are BAER tested as well as DNA tested for the HUU gene. Due to the sire being homozygous N/N, all pups produced will have normal uric acid and therefore not have the risk of developing the uric acid stones dalmatians are typically known to develop. I also begin work on basic training & socialization.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include white and black and white and liver brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Hyperuricosuria (HUU)
