I'm Amy E., the breeder behind Chicks and Hounds Ranch located in Needville, TX. We're a family-run kennel dedicated to preserving the Black and Tan Coonhound through careful, ethical, and intentional breeding. Our mission is to uphold the breed standard with sound structure, stable temperament, and natural working ability. Our hounds are fully health tested and actively shown in conformation, bred to excel in the field, the ring, and as loyal companions at home.

Why did you start breeding?
What makes your program special?
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Where do your breeding dogs live?

Amy has been certified by Good Dog's screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you're ready to reach out, feel free to ask any questions about the breed, their program, or specific puppies.
Together, you’ll choose the puppy that’s right for you, stay in touch with regular updates, and plan how to bring your new puppy home.

"Our puppies are priced to reflect the investment we make in responsible breeding. Each puppy comes from fully health-tested parents, is raised in our home with early socialization, and receives age-appropriate veterinary care, microchipping, and deworming. We provide lifetime breeder support and take pride in matching each puppy with the right family. A non-refundable deposit secures your puppy on our waitlist. Deposits demonstrate your commitment and allow us to reserve a puppy from a specific litter. The deposit is applied toward the total purchase price, and we provide ongoing support and guidance until your puppy joins your home."
Amy may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase. If Amy offers a contract or guarantee, the details will be personalized by them. If you have any questions or want to know more, don't hesitate to reach out to Amy directly.

💔 Breeding Update – With a Heavy Heart With a heavy heart, I’ve made the decision to pause breeding plans for Maggie. Maggie passed her OFA Cardiac exam, and we went into an echocardiogram, not expecting to find anything concerning. The good news is that there was no evidence of significant cardiac disease. However, there was mild valve regurgitation that could be completely normal, or possibly represent very early valve changes. Out of an abundance of caution, our cardiologist recommended a recheck in 1 year to ensure nothing has progressed before considering breeding. Her health — and the health of future generations of Black and Tan Coonhounds — means everything to us. This wasn’t the update we hoped to share, but doing right by our dogs will always come before any plans or timelines. 🖤🐾
