I'm Kate C., the breeder behind Conowingo Dames LLC located in Laurel, MD. We were founded with the goal of contributing beautiful, family-friendly Silken Windhounds to the East Coast community and beyond. We prioritize traits that make our dogs perfect family companions as well as ideal candidates for events such as conformation, obedience, agility, and nose work.
Q. & A. with Kate
Why did you start breeding?
I have always been invested in the well-being of animals. I wanted to give back to the Silken Windhound breed by breeding healthy pups and placing them into loving homes.
What makes your program special?
Our dogs are lovingly raised in our home alongside our toddler-aged son, Alden, and sassy grey tabby cat, Houdie. We provide a nurturing environment where our dogs are exposed to a wide range of sights, sounds, and smells to ensure that they are well-rounded and confident. We find so much joy and fulfillment in what we do and would be honored to introduce you to your next beloved furry companion.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Conowingo Dames LLC reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Silken Windhounds.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Full Embark Panel, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), Multiple Drug Sensitivity (MDR1)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
