I'm Debbie F., the breeder behind Creekside Portuguese Water Dogs located in Lititz, PA.
Q. & A. with Debbie
Why did you start breeding?
We have always loved dogs, and have owned several different breeds of dogs over the years. We discovered Porties approximately ten years ago, and fell in love with their personality, looks, and active lifestyle. Breeding them is an activity that involves our whole family, and we have learned to appreciate this breed even more. We love to do our best to offer healthy, happy, well-adjusted puppies.
What makes your program special?
Since we are not a large kennel, we are able to spend a lot of time with our puppies, really get to know them, and care for them as part of the family.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and white, black, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia (rDVM, not registered)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), GM1 Gangliosidosis, Portuguese Water Dog Type
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
