Why did you start breeding?
Such a long story... My grandmother talked about the little red dogs she grew up with. It took me years to match her stories with the Irish Terrier, and even longer to meet one in person. I fell in love. We have a small conservation farm, Irish Terriers also need the same conservation. Our approach is focused on health, temperament, color, and type.What makes your program special?
Our Parents are Embark tested and have been thoroughly tested by Our Veterinary team before they are considered for a litter. They also Must be good citizens, and we work hard to make that so. Working and living with our family on our farm, our dogs are allowed to enjoy a variety of activities; puppies learn from our adults to do the same. We believe each Irish has a forever family waiting.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

About Morgan
Morgan is a smart, gentle girl. Her favorite place is with her family. She loves snuggling on the couch in front of the fireplace in the winter. When out on our farm. She is attentive to my needs and those of her role as guardian. She also is well socialized and enjoys going into town and running errands. She is amazing in both Urban and natural settings when walking or hiking.

About Mason
Mason Smithwick of Detmore is truly the best of our breeding program. He exudes everything Irish Terrier! As you will notice in his photos. We like to leave him with the extra fluff around his face because he’s just so adorable with it. However, when he is striped, he looks like a full-blooded Irish Terrier boy. Mason doesn’t know a stranger but is a gentleman and waits to be greeted. He loves hiking and driving around our farm and snuggling various brand new babies. We’ve even caught him with baby chicks snuggled up to him or under him. When out and about in town, Mason loves to ride in the car and sit underneath my chair at our local coffee cafe. He’s very well behaved in both urban and natural environments. He also loves agility and is learning to stay on course so that we can start agility events. Mason has been trained in agility and tracking, and is ready for the agility ring; we only need to stay on course. Mason’s health is of utmost importance to us. He has been health tested via Embark, and our vet has given him a clean bill of health. His excellent health is a reflection of his parents, who are also Embark tested and clear of any health issues. This lineage of good health is a testament to our commitment to breeding healthy and happy Irish Terriers.

About Connor
Embark Tested Neg All genetic disorders. Connor is sweet, loving, and doesn't know a stranger. Total gentleman on hikes and walks with plenty of energy to finish out a 5-mile trail. Around the farm, He is gentle with all of our animals and barks appropriately at the coyotes and strangers that may come around. Connor loves being a dad and spends the majority of his time. When there is a litter in our home helping clean, snuggle and love on puppies. He assists Rowan with potty training and teaching pups how to navigate outside and explore new things.

About Rowan
Rowan is full of sweetness and sass. She is a Littermate of Harper and has a beautiful Wooly Coat that challenges me each time I strip and groom her. Rowan loves being a mom, she enjoys snuggling and cleaning her pups and when it's time teaches them to be confident in new challenges like going outside to potty.

Eye Examination (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Josh and Cristi were great from the start. process was quick and easy. We picked up Una on December !8th in Richmond VA. She is an adorable, energetic pup filled with lots of energy. This is our first IT and I had a lot of questions about owning one. Cristi and Josh of Detmore Kennels spent time talking through our needs and those of an IT dog to ensure that we had the best fit pup from the litter. I was very encouraged to hear them say that they focus on breeding good citizens. Callum is proving to be a smart, eager dog who wants to do his best job being polite and social. From day 1 we continued the crate training that Cristi started and his regular nap and night sleep schedule has worked well for us all. I think his confidence says a lot about the first 10 weeks of life at Detmore.
