I'm Barb R., the breeder behind Encore Vizsla located in Griffith, IN. We strive to vizslas with sound body and mind. Our dogs are bred with careful consideration to health, temperament, structure, and the desire to work. Our Vizslas are part of our family and live in the house with us. They have competed in hunt tests, conformation, agility, and nose work. We are currently training our youngest Vizsla in search and recovery. Our dogs enjoy working just as much as snuggling up next to us on the couch. They are great pets as well as athletes. We would be thrilled to introduce you to your next Vizsla puppy!
Q. & A. with Barb
Why did you start breeding?
I have learned so much about the breed over the past 13 years, and my youngest female has proven to be an amazing Vizsla in so many ways. I found a dog that I believe will be a great match to improve the breed!
What makes your program special?
I have competed or trained in many activities with my Vizslas. They truly are versatile dogs. They love to work and hang out with us. We have a great amount of knowledge and support to offer an owner of a Vizsla. We believe in positive reinforcement training and breaking things down into smaller skill sets to help the dog achieve success in all aspects of its life.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Encore Vizsla reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Vizslas.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
OFA/CHIC DNA Repository
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
