I'm Ellen R., the breeder behind Ethelred Barbet located in Sarasota, FL. We breed and show our dogs out of a love for and dedication to the protection and betterment of the breed. It is our goal to produce healthy, show-quality puppies with wonderful temperaments. With this in mind, we consider a variety of factors when making breeding decisions, and we only breed dogs that are exemplary representations of the standard. We provide each of our dogs and puppies with the best care, and we ensure each pup that we don’t keep goes to a responsible, loving home. Proud AKC breeder of Merit. Our GCH Bandi Lackie Splendrki is currently the number 2 Barbet. He won Best of Breed at the National Dog Show and was on NBC after the Thanksgiving Day Parade! We are honored to be recognized as an AKC Breeder of Merit.

Why did you start breeding?
I have been showing dogs for over 40 years. My dogs have earned Obedience titles, Fastcat titles and Companion Dog titles as well as their AKC championship titles.What makes your program special?
My dogs are pets first and I place pups in loving homes. Pups are raised lovingly in my home. My grandsons visit regularly to help socialize them.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include brown and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), DNA Profile
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
