Karakachan
Old Time Scotch Collie
Katya, mom
Karakachan
About Katya
Katya is an excellent and attentive guardian to the sheep on our working farm. She guards the sheep within electronetting fence, but does jump the fence to defend her territory if required. She is not a wanderer, and freely jumps in and out of the fold at will, making sure her sheep are always safe and guarded. She does do some perimeter checking as well and is keen to stay within boundaries.
Katya is also a very social LGD with our family and frequent visitors to our family farm. She can be somewhat aloof to new people, but that is good for her job description. She is a very sweet and submissive girl and loves our children dearly as well.
Katya is Pennhipped and scored a 0.40, which is a mild risk for hip dysplasia, which makes her a great breeding candidate for the Karakachan breed. Her sire is a direct import from Bulgaria, and her dam is descended from some of the best lines for great hips in the domestic Karakachan lines. She has a lot to offer the breed, including her exquisite and unique coloring.
Piper, mom
Old Time Scotch Collie
About Piper
Piper is the most heart warming dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She has such high emotional intelligence and wears her emotions on her ears. She is the dog that has to be right next to you riding on the side by side to go do farm work, paw on your leg, snuggled close.
However, when you get to where the work is, this tiny girl can WORK! She absolutely loves herding cattle, and her little 35 lb self can move our mamas and bulls like a pro! She uses an upright working style to push cattle, using snapping and barking. She often knows what we want her to do without us even telling her.
She also land and sky patrols for hawks and coyotes. She is quick to take off in the direction of coyote yelps in order to protect our farm. She also watches the sky to make sure hawks and vultures do not eat our livestock.
Piper LOVES vermin hunting and eating her catch. Mice is a delicacy in her opinion.
Dwight, dad
Old Time Scotch Collie
About Dwight
Dwight is the epitome of a ladies man! He’s gorgeous and regal, but loves to snuggle and get all the affection he can. He is a wonderful companion to our family as well as a working farm dog.
Dwight comes from incredible genetics through his sire, Wallace, and has the capabilities to boot. He herds cows, gathers and holds sheep, catches chickens, hunts vermin, and patrols the land and sky. If there is a hawk, it doesn’t stand a chance to get out chickens, as Dwight is quick to spot them and chase them off the farm.
Parent health testing

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Goshen Highlands reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Karakachans.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
