I'm Joanna S., the breeder behind Haiku Rat Terriers located in Haiku, HI. We are huge animal lovers and have a special place in our hearts for our dogs. We want to provide top-quality beloved companions. We breed with passion and integrity so we’re able to responsibly contribute to growing this amazing breed. It’s important to us to share the gift of living with one of our puppies with other families.
Q. & A. with Joanna
Why did you start breeding?
I wanted a smaller, shorthaired dog that was intelligent, athletic and sturdy. I decided on rat terriers. I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of breeders and imported from health tested, grand champion lines. At seven months old I started training my female in search and rescue and she has been phenomenal. Very loving, very loyal, and very easy to train.
What makes your program special?
As far as I can find, I am the only breeder of standard rat terriers in the Hawaiian islands. I only planned to produce a few litters of exceptional puppies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white black and tan, black white and tan, and black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
