Meet the breeder

I'm Sheena C., the breeder behind Hardwood Kennels located in Dearborn, MO. At Hardwood Kennels we train dogs for upland bird hunting, obedience, and show. I use my 25+ years of experience as a pro-dog trainer to breed quality dogs. We breed for health, temperament, and show.

Q. & A. with Sheena

  • Why did you start breeding?

I grew up with the field trial type GSP, but a different style always appealed to me. When I moved back home, I began the Hardwoods line with a 100% Hungarian bred female, and she has remained the backbone of our bloodline.
  • What makes your program special?

Because we train and compete our dogs full time, we are extremely particular on which dogs make it into our breeding program. We want every puppy from the litter to be something we would want to keep and train. We want to make our job easier if someone brings their puppy back to us for training or make it easy for them to train themselves.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black, black and white, black roan, liver, white and liver, liver roan, and liver and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.
