Meet the breeder

I'm HussarRidge, the breeder behind HussarRidge located in Westborough, MA. Appenzellers are an intelligent, hardworking breed that need both physical and mental exercise to remain happy and healthy. They can excel as livestock herders and guardians, devoted companions for active families, or dedicated sport dogs.

Q. & A. with HussarRidge

  • Why did you start breeding?

I grew up gaining hands-on experience in breeding and showing dogs in my family home, which shaped my understanding of responsible practices. That foundation grew into a passion for breed preservation. Today, we are a small Appenzeller Sennenhund home breeder focused on temperament, structure, health, and responsible placement—raising each dog with care, intention, and respect for the breed.
  • What makes your program special?

We are intentionally small, allowing us to truly know our dogs and raise each puppy with daily care and attention. We breed thoughtfully and selectively, focusing on health, temperament, and structure. Our dogs are health tested and proven in performance and conformation, guiding purposeful pairings. Puppies are raised in our home with real-life exposure, building confidence and resilience.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black brown and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from HussarRidge

HussarRidge has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

HussarRidge partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

“Puppy selection takes place around 6–7 weeks of age, once we are able to properly evaluate each puppy’s temperament, structure, confidence, and energy level. Placement decisions are based on the information provided in the application, phone conversations, lifestyle compatibility, and each family’s goals and experience — not simply reservation order or color preference. Our goal is to create the best possible match for both the puppy and its future home. Families with reservations are welcome to visit the puppies around 5–6 weeks of age.”
