Meet the breeder

I'm Charity J., the breeder behind Jackman Kennels located in Ephraim, UT. We breed the best quality representatives from AKC Old Fashioned Long-Eared Champion and hunting lines. Every dog in our program must pass the test of being able to adapt well in our large family not just with our children, but our the rest of our "pack". Temperament is paramount to us.

Q. & A. with Charity

  • Why did you start breeding?

With my first Black and Tan, I became attracted to the friendliness of the Black and Tan, and how well they adapt to family settings. They have fun quirky personalities, that are independent but fiercely loyal to their families. The American history of this breed also struck my interest. I knew from the beginning this was a breed that needed to be perpetuated and preserved for generations to come.
  • What makes your program special?

We breed for classy, old fashioned dogs that are healthy and even tempered. We prioritize a great disposition and the ability to excel at hunting as well as a loving family pet. An emphasis to breed a dog that is friendly and forgiving of children, as well as being intelligent and easy to train is important to us. We breed for a laid back, calm disposition that is happy to be a part of the family.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black and tan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I had an exceptional experience with Charity and cannot recommend them highly enough. From the moment I reached out, they were incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and passionate about their dogs. You can tell they truly care about the health and well-being of each puppy they raise. The entire process, from initial inquiry to bringing my new puppy home, was seamless and stress-free. Charity was transparent about the breeding process, provided detailed health information, and offered valuable advice on raising a happy, healthy dog. My puppy was well-socialized, started on basic training, and had a clean bill of health. It's clear that they breed with a focus on both temperament and quality. I’m so grateful to have found such a responsible, caring breeder. My new furry family member is thriving, and I’m confident it’s thanks to the love and attention Charity gives to each dog. If you're looking for a reputable breeder, this is the place to go!

Charity was so easy to communicate with and gave me so much information about the puppy! I didn't know very much about this breed as this was my first black and tan coonhound. She told me exactly what to expect, she gave me regular updates about how the puppy was doing and she helped me prepare for her arrival! She sent me regular photos so that we could get more and more excited to meet her! And I've now had my girl for almost 2 years, this April!, and Charity has been an invaluable resource throughout her growth and maturation as a puppy and a young adult dog!
