Q. & A. with Ramona
Why did you start breeding?
We were drawn to the Lagotto due to their hypoallergenic coats. We have allergies and we truly wanted a dog as part of our family. We soon learned that the Lagotto is a very emotionally intelligent and sensitive dog. Our dogs have brought us so much joy and we wanted to give other families the opportunity to enjoy life with one of these amazing dogs. We are determined to have ethical, responsible policies when it comes to breeding, raising, and placing our puppies.
What makes your program special?
We are passionate about the Lagotto Romagnolo breed, and our love for these dogs shines through in every aspect of our breeding program. We spend 24 hours a day taking care of our puppies and making sure they are exposed to many novel people and things. Your puppy will be well adjusted and you won’t have to worry about separation anxiety or aggression in our puppies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

🗓️ First Week Focus
-positive interactions with people, other animals, lots of praise with exploring new sights, sounds, people and things. Very important to prevent any negative interactions. This means no dog parks! Have puppy play dates with young puppies or gentle, patient adult dogs.8
Build a positive foundation through:
• Short, frequent training and handling sessions during awake periods.
• Lots of play and cuddles, interspersed with forced nap times—puppies will often act out more when overtired.
• Confining your pup to a limited area at home (like a gated-off kitchen or family room) helps reduce accidents and prevents elimination habits around the house.
• Positive potty training routines: frequent trips outside, praise when they go in the right spot, and using the crate to reinforce den-like behavior.

Ramona is a breeder with a lot of knowledge and experience. Our dog Marco arrived ready to learn and become a part of the family. Marco has a great temperment and loves other dogs and people. Marco is healthy and true to his breed, his curls are legendary. As soon as I had questions about caring for Marco, Ramona was available to answer about which food to eat, shampoo to use, crate and potty training, vet, and grooming questions. Ramona and Joyful Hearts provide top notch service, I highly recommend to anyone looking for a Lagotto.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
