Meet the breeder

I'm Kelly J., the breeder behind Kelly’s Ratters located in Newport, WA. I'm a lifelong dog enthusiast, and I'm excited to share my passion and purpose with others through my breeding program. Raising Rat Terriers to be loving companions for LIFE. Breeding healthy, strong dogs that retain a strong natural prey drive with the future of the breed always in mind. My puppies are raised underfoot in my home in the beautiful mountains of the Pacific Northwest. My puppies are given a healthy, loving start so they can succeed as well-socialized, trainable, wonderful additions to your family.

Q. & A. with Kelly

  • Why did you start breeding?

My dad raised English Bulldogs, Border Collies, and American Saddlebred Horses when I was growing up. Dad had a Rat Terrier “Slim” late in life. I fell in love with her and had to have my own. Really hard to find this breed so I thought, “They’re such great dogs more people should have them! So here I am raising them!
  • What makes your program special?

Because they’re raised in my home one litter at a time they get all my love and attention. They get top-quality food to help them grow into strong healthy adult dogs. Around 5 weeks they get access to a safe fenced area outdoors to play and begin potty training. They get their first shots, puppy wormer, and veterinary health check before going to their new family. I’m always available for questions and support with raising your new puppy. Sire and Dam have been genetically tested for PLL-primary lens luxation, PRA-PRCD-progressive rod cone degeneration, DM -degenerative myelopathy and both parents are Clear, meaning they don’t have any of these genes so their puppies won’t have them either.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

I purchased a rat terrier female puppy from Kelly, I was very impressed with the dog's temperament and how easy it's been to potty train. Kelly does not have the puppies in a kennel, but has given up a portion of her home to let them be in a good environment. If you are looking to purchase a rat terrier, I would buy one from her.
