I'm Weston & Rosita W., the breeder behind Kennel Rio Columbia located in Kennewick, WA. We live with and raise Spanish Water Dogs in our home. Our puppies are healthy, well-socialized, and make wonderful companion family dogs as well as succeed in competition and work.

Why did you start breeding?
We initially did not intend to breed our dogs. But when we realized how few good SWDs were available in the US, and realized we had imported three champion-level dogs from Spain, we decided to give it a try. We have raised 5 awesome litters in our home since 2017 and plan to continue raising a litter every year or two for a few more years.What makes your program special?
Our dogs live with us in our home and our puppies are whelped and raised in our home. We have other animals on our small property and many family members--young and old--who help us provide varied and consistent socialization for our puppies. Most of our puppies are serving as dedicated family pets, with a couple of our puppies who are fully trained psychiatric service dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?

About Selah
We brought Selah home from Spain in 2022 to expand our breeding program. She lives in our home with a cat and other dogs. She is sweet and tender.
Parent health testing
Excellent level

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel, Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (NAD), Spanish Water Dog Type, Early Onset Progressive Retinal Atrophy (EOPRA), Congenital Hypothyroidism with Goiter (CHG), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
