I'm Makenna L., the breeder behind Kōri no Ken located in Livonia, MI. My love for these breeds have pushed me to work on preservation. I am working to bring drive back into the breeds while maintaining solid temperaments and correct structure. I have been involved with Nihon Ken for 10 years now and would like to preserve these breeds so that I may enjoy them for the entirety of my life.
Q. & A. with Makenna
Why did you start breeding?
I got into breeding by first having co-own dogs with other breeders. I am still working closely with my mentors. The drop in Hokkaido population made me realize if I don't act now, I may not have another chance to help this breed.
What makes your program special?
I am currently working on bringing work drive back into the breed. I want to see these dogs excel in sport homes and bring recognition to how versatile these breeds are. I recognize the temperament issues within each breed and am actively working on making the temperaments more stable.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Hokkaido puppies are red. Kai Ken puppies include black brindle and brindle. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
