I'm Lauren B., the breeder behind Legacy Kennels Michigan located in Michigan. We breed our own and import quality lines to build our kennel. All puppies must pass eyes, hips, elbows, patella, cardiac via echocardiogram, vwD and PRA to enter our breeding program. Temperament is also crucial.
Q. & A. with Lauren
Why did you start breeding?
I was mentored in breeding over 20 years, but I never felt the need. I was well aware that breeding ethically is costly, frustrating, time consuming, and can end in heart break despite doing everything right.
When we decided to bring Gracie home she changed our lives seemingly overnight. I feel more people would enjoy this same incredible experience.
What makes your program special?
The main thing that separates me is stringent health screening. I require hips, patella, elbows, eyes, and cardiac via echocardiogram for EVERY puppy produced. I strictly enforce this.
As most kennels do not test like me I have to start from scratch importing and testing as the pup matures.
We also feed a BARF raw diet that has been approved by a licensed canine nutritionist.
Lastly, we are advocates of ENS and utilize the Puppy Culture curriculum.
What are the different breed sizes in your program?
Our puppies are medium (mittel) size. Sizes will vary depending on the parent dogs.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include brown, wolfgray, white, orange, cream, black & tan, and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
