Xander and Sophie's litter

Rhodesian Ridgeback
About Sophie
Sophie is our 4 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. Her pedigree includes international grand champions from Russia. Her bloodlines also go back to one of the founding Rhodesian Ridgeback kennels in South Africa, Crownwood Kennels. Sophie is extremely food driven and loves to do tricks for treats! She is a large female Rhodesian at between 90 - 100lbs and about 26-27" at the shoulder (about the size of many large male Ridgebacks) In her past litter we had a mix of large pups like Sophie and standard size male and female Ridgebacks. We love to take Sophie out and about in our dog friendly community. She's great with kids and the elderly and seems to innately know to be more careful when they are around. When not doing trick, or out on the town, she loves to stay right by my side throughout the day and always alerts me to anyone at the door. She is highly protective of her pack, but especially of me. She will put herself between me and any perceived threat and comes running anytime that she senses that I may be in distress. I can't say enough about how amazing this dog is. She has my whole heart!
Good health testing
Good level
Lone Star Ridgebacks reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (rDVM, not registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
DNA Disease Panel, Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME), Degenerative Myelopathy (DM; SOD1A)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
