I'm Jan L., the breeder behind Matchless Dalmatians located in Martinsville, IN. We breed for show/companion. All parents have to pass their health testing and have CHIC numbers to prove it.
Q. & A. with Jan
Why did you start breeding?
I got my first show dog in 1988 and it was the start of something wonderful. Breeding her after she obtained her championship seemed natural. I had a wonderful mentor and made it my goal to produce the best dogs possible. That first litter has led to many since then and each one is a learning experience we hope to use as we move forward in our program.
What makes your program special?
All parents must pass health testing and have their CHIC #s to document it. Puppies are born and raised in our home and we've created a nursery in one room exclusively for them. We try to expose them to many different types of enrichment and socialization activities so they are more than prepared for their new lives. Healthy, beautiful, well-adjusted puppies are our ultimate goal.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and liver brown and white and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Matchless Dalmatians reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dalmatians.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
