I'm McCarthy R., the breeder behind McCarthy Ranchette LLC located in San Diego, CA. Our journey with breeding started with a passion for breeding quality sheep. The partnership with our dogs became central. We have created a program built around genetic and health and orthopedic testing, and central focus on temperament, through mentorship with other breeders we highly respect.

Why did you start breeding?
We are a small scale "ranchette" in San Diego county. We believe in responsible breeding, ensuring the health of our dogs and sheep flock. It is important to us that we breed for good temperament, with a focus on lifelong animal health goals. We place our puppies in home based on temperaments, both with our assessments personally from observing them daily, and Volhard temperament testing. We invest significantly in our puppies from health testing of parents prior to planning breedings to Puppy Culture curriculum we do with puppies and ENS protocol. We work hard to match each puppy with the right fit for a family's home and lifestyle.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

McCarthy has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
McCarthy partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 7 weeks old.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.
