Meet the breeder

I'm Melissa W., the breeder behind Melissa's Portuguese Water Dogs located in Colorado Springs, CO. We are not a breeding program, but rather a family with a PWD that has a LONG line of Best of Breed and Best in Show ancestors. She is a direct descendant form "Luck be a Lady" AKA LadyBug, one of the winningest female PWD's of all time. The sire for this litter is equally as impressive.

Q. & A. with Melissa

  • Why did you start breeding?

We are a family who has just started breeding with our ONE PWD. She is nearly 3 years old and this is her first litter. We are considering more litters, but are allowing how this whelping goes determine that.
  • What makes your program special?

The fact that it is NOT a program makes us special! You'll be getting a puppy from us that will be like getting a pup from your most trusted friend. EXCEPT, your puppy is health guaranteed, AKC Registered, microchipped, vaccinated, fully handled and exposed to everything that will encourage a well rounded dog. This isn't a litter from a kennel, this is a CAREFULLY planned litter born and raised in our home. Treated and loved just like our very own <3
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include black and white, brown and white, black, and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Melissa

Melissa has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

“We have a questionnaire all prospective families will fill out. Based on that as well as my personal interactions with the families learning their wants/needs in a puppy, will determine which puppy will fit which family the best. We will meet with EVERY family that will be getting a puppy IN PERSON. And if in person is not an option, we will REQUIRE a virtual meet and greet at minimum.”
