I'm Shannon T., the breeder behind Mountain Pass Barn located in Troutville, VA. For more than 20 years we have lived on a small hobby farm in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. I have raised children, chickens, rabbits, and had horses for 30 years. Now I focus on raising puppies with love in my home surrounded by family. Health testing is done to ensure a healthy start.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    I started with Aslan whose mother is from Ukraine for diverse genes and to balance some traits in both lines. He has superb DNA, OFA's, and hair that's low maintenance kept long. I found a chihuahua show handler in Mississippi retiring her shih tzu line and she was kind enough to contribute.

  • What makes your program special?

    DNA and OFA testing of bloodlines for optimal puppy health with OFA's of knees, eyes, heart, some hip, elbow, dentition, and hearing in the dalmatian pups. OFA's are publicly accessible. Born in my bedroom and raised in the central parts of the house allow exposure to cats, cars, big dogs, and more. Vaccines and deworming protocols approved by vets help maintain optimal health of your new puppy.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Dalmatian puppies are white and black. Shih Tzu puppies include black, gold, blue and white, black and white, and gold and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Shannon

Shannon has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

After buyers complete the application and screening process, Shannon partners with them to find the best puppy match.

“To ensure you get the right dog for you and your family we match energy levels and body size to your goals and life situation. Different litters are likely to have different qualities. Available groups may be shown in video chats. We will do video calls and multiple talks before deciding whether one of my puppies will be right for you, I reserve the right to decline any interested party at anytime in the process and in that instance you will be refunded the deposit. All premises monitored by home security services notifying authorities to discourage unauthorized visits.”

Puppy prices include a $500 refundable deposit and between $1,300 - $2,300 final payment, before taxes & fees.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
