I'm Shannon T., the breeder behind Mountain Pass Barn located in Troutville, VA. MountainPassBarn dot com for detailed description. Shih tzu with excellent pedigrees including Ukraine TUKU for diversity & AKC USA show lines 2+ generations back. Clear Eyes, patellas, cardiac, and more. I also dabble in dalmatians.   • Why did you start breeding?

    I started with my boy Aslan whose mother is from Ukraine for diversity and to balance some traits in both lines. He has superb DNA, OFA's, and hair that is low maintenance. I found bloodlines from a chihuahua show handler in Mississippi retiring her shih tzu line with lineage from the show ring. With her guidance and contribution to my program I'm hoping to produce a pup worthy of the show ring.

  • What makes your program special?

    DNA and OFA testing of parents for optimal puppy health with a lifetime refund % based on age. Potty to outside, the Brilliant Pad, and pine pellet litter box. Crate training started. Obstacle course and variety of toys, surfaces, chews, puzzles to develop courage. Car rides and outings to the vet. Exposure to cats, cars, big dogs, and more. Vaccines and deworming protocols approved by vets.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our Dalmatian puppies are white and black. Shih Tzu puppies include black and white and gold and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • DNA Disease Panel

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
