Mountain River Griffons

Hun Hill Magnum, (or as we call him, Coop) is our Wirehaired Pointing Griffon stud here at Mountain River Griffons. He comes from an incredible lineage— his grandsire, VC CH Griffe D’Automne Mr. Brown (2006–2020), is a name well-known in the breed, and his sire, HG’s Cota’s Keoki (CK), earned a NAVHDA NA Prize I (112) and UT Prize II (197), owned by George DeCosta, Jr. Coop has certainly carried on those traits. He’s an outstanding hunting dog with strong natural instincts, a high prey drive, and the athleticism to cover ground with ease. In the field, he’s focused, fast, and dependable. Several of his puppies have already earned NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize I, and many of his sons has gone on to achieve a Utility Prize. Most notably, his son Gauge Vaughn Mountain River achieved the coveted NAVHDA Versatile Champion (VC) title at the 2025 NAVHDA Invitational at just 2 years and 3 months old, making him the youngest dog to earn the VC title at 2025 event. This accomplishment is a true testament to both Gauge’s ability and the strength of Coop’s lineage. But what we love most about Coop isn’t just his hunting drive—it’s his heart. At home, he’s the very best family dog. He’s affectionate, gentle, and absolutely wonderful with children. He has a playful, goofy personality that makes everyone around him smile, and he knows how to “switch off” at home after a day in the field. Coop is the kind of dog who’s not only your trusted hunting partner but also your best friend and a loyal member of the family. His puppies inherit his intelligence, drive, and athleticism, as well as his fun-loving, easygoing nature that makes them amazing companions. Mountain River Scout is a Griffon who truly embodies the best of both worlds—family devotion and hunting drive. Around the home, Scout is affectionate and steady, with a warm, gentle temperament that makes her a joy to live with. She has an intuitive sense of people and easily settles into family life, but she’s never far from bringing a playful spark when the mood calls for it. Loyal and attentive, Scout thrives on companionship, whether she’s curled up at your feet or greeting you with her characteristic Griffon enthusiasm. In the field, Scout transforms into a determined and capable hunting partner. She carries a strong prey drive and a natural instinct for tracking and pointing, making her an eager worker with the focus and endurance hunters rely on. Her coat is dense and weather-resistant, giving her the durability to handle the toughest terrain and conditions. Like her sister, Mountain River Dixie, Scout demonstrates the classic versatility of the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon—adaptable, intelligent, and always ready for the task at hand. Scout’s pedigree underscores her natural gifts. She descends on her sire’s side from GCH CH Fireside’s Spontaneous Combustion JH (“Buster”), a respected name in the breed, producing Griffons of both field excellence and conformation quality. On her dam’s side, Scout traces directly back to Gant’s Rowdy Remi, one of the foundation dogs of Mountain River Griffons. This combination roots her firmly in a lineage known for producing dogs of character, talent, and reliability. Mountain River Suki is a graceful, athletic Wirehaired Pointing Griffon who embodies the best of her distinguished lineage. With her sweet, affectionate temperament and high prey drive, Suki is as much a devoted family companion as she is a capable hunting partner. She carries an excellent, harsh hunting coat that protects her in the field and makes her an efficient, reliable worker in all conditions. Quick, sleek, and fast on her feet, she moves with both speed and elegance—traits that make her a natural in the uplands and at home in the water. Suki’s sire, VC Stoney Ridge Ivan, MH, CH, is one of the most influential Griffons of his era. Ivan earned the coveted NAVHDA Versatile Champion title, proving his all-around ability in the field, water, and obedience. He also achieved his AKC Master Hunter title and became a Conformation Champion, showcasing not only working talent but adherence to breed standards. Ivan’s reputation for producing cooperative, talented dogs has made him a cornerstone sire in Wirehaired Pointing Griffon pedigrees. Among Ivan’s most successful offspring is VC Flatbrooks Walker, MH, CH. Walker has been recognized as one of the premier Wirehaired Pointing Griffons of his generation, earning his NAVHDA Versatile Champion title, AKC Master Hunter, and Conformation Champion. His accomplishments led to recognition as Field Dog of the Year and induction into the Field Dog Hall of Fame, further underscoring the strength behind Suki’s pedigree. On her dam’s side, Suki descends from GCH CH Fireside’s Spontaneous Combustion JH (“Buster”), a name well-respected for producing Griffons with both field talent and conformation success. Buster’s influence brings further balance to Suki’s pedigree, blending proven hunting drive with breed-type excellence. While Suki's pedigree shines with champions, she is more than the sum of her lineage. Mountain River Dixie is the perfect balance of fun-loving family companion and serious hunting partner. Around the home she is affectionate, playful, and always ready to bring joy with her easygoing personality. In the field, she shines with her strong prey drive, sharp instincts, and natural versatility that define the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Dixie carries a pedigree rich with proven performance and breed character. On her sire’s side, she descends from CH Fireside’s Spontaneous Combustion, a name well-known for producing talented Griffons with both conformation and field ability. On her dam’s side, she traces directly back to one of our foundation dogs, Gant's Rowdy Remi, anchoring her lineage in the heart of Mountain River Griffons’ program. Her greatest legacy so far is through her offspring. Gauge Vaughn Mountain River, her son, achieved his NAVHDA Versatile Champion (VC) title at just 2 years and 3 months of age—becoming the youngest dog to ever run and earn this prestigious award at the 2025 NAVHDA Invitational.
