Meet the breeder

I'm David S., the breeder behind Mountain River Griffons located in Shelley, ID. Our dogs are part of our family. Our goal is to match healthy, well bred, quality puppies to safe, loving forever families. Weather its training, hunting, playing or relaxing we love to spend time with our dogs. Their health and welfare is our top priority. All our dogs are all AKC Registered.

Q. & A. with David

  • Why did you start breeding?

29 years ago we had our first litter of puppies and just couldn't get enough of them. There are a few things in life that are cuter and more cuddly than newborn puppies. Between that and our dedication to hunting dogs we have loved matching our puppies with families and helping them discover the joy a good hunting/family dog can bring into a home.
  • What makes your program special?

We have been, training, breeding, and loving dogs for 31 years. Our dogs are AKC and NAVHDA registered. It is our priority to be a responsible breeder and make sure that we raise healthy puppies from quality bloodlines. It is also a priority of ours to make sure that our puppies are paired with and go to a safe, secure, loving, home where they can achieve their full potential and be happy.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are brown and gray. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home and a kennel on my property.

Got our pup (Rylee) last winter in December 2024. David was great with communication and working with us to pick her up. Over the past 11 months Rylee has shown us the sweet, fun, and incredibly smart sides of the WPG breed. We’ve already taken her out in the fields and are amazed at her natural instincts! We are so happy to have this little girl as a part of our family.

Speaking with David on the phone initially, I could tell he has a lot of passion for and commitment to the breed. He's extremely knowledgeable and accommodating for travel/pickup for pups, as well as accessible after the fact for questions about anything with your new addition to the family. If and when we decide to get another Griff, David will be the first person I contact.

David got back to me right away and was very helpful when I was trying to decide on what breed and which pup I should go with. He was very friendly and a great guy to work with. He helped me get new best friend Scottie!

David was so responsive and knowledgeable about the breed. You can tell they really care about their dogs. They stayed in touch and sent me regular updates about my puppy. Good Dog made the process so easy, from the initial connection with David to arranging pick up and paying securely. I’m so glad I found David through Good Dog, and I couldn’t be happier with Boston.
