I'm Zack O., the breeder behind Oakley’s Shorthairs located in Raleigh, NC. We have Shorthairs with beauty, intelligence, strong hunting instincts and drive that just won’t quit in the field. Our dogs are family members first and hunters second. Our girl has unmatched drive, athleticism and a strong willingness to please in the field. However, no dog is perfect. So, we intentionally match dogs with traits/attributes we want to keep, and seek traits that we want to see more of.
Q. & A. with Zack
Why did you start breeding?
We got into breeding because we wanted to experience the process of having puppies as a family and keep a few to raise for ourselves. We know all the traits of our dogs and wanted to build off them. We have a trainer that we see with over 25 years of experience and he advised/approved that our girl was suitable for breeding. He has trained our dogs and the dog we are breeding to as well.
What makes your program special?
We focus on great nutrition and physical shape in our female, Greta. Greta is our only breeding female and was in top shape prior to breeding. Our puppies are well socialized and cared for with supervision around the clock. We follow Standing Stone Kennels breeding methods with indoor puppy rearing, frequent weight checks, supplemental feeding, and tail banding for docking.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include liver and white and white and liver. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Greta
Greta is a motivated shorthair that has a ton of drive in the field. She has high emotional intelligence and is in tune with what’s going on. She is whoa broken and started with over 100 birds shot over her. She has a natural retrieve that didn’t take very long to get identify.

Zack was incredibly responsive and contacted us right away when we messaged about his puppies. He fully explained his breeding process, how he cared for the mom and puppies, and his socialization process. We were able to visit and meet all of the puppies in the litter, and it was clear that all of the information given prior to meeting the puppies was accurate and the puppies were loved and well cared for. We were provided updates about our puppy throughout the entire process, and our dog is well socialized and was able to transition to us without any issues. I would 100% purchase a puppy from Zack again!

Oakley’s Shorthairs gave us the perfect adoption experience. They communicated constantly with updates and answered all of our questions. Additionally, the time they took to provide a well-rounded and prepared puppy was appreciated. Our puppy, Apple, came to us with experience going in the grass, climbing up and down steps, and even had a feeding/sleeping schedule which made for a terrific transition. Highly recommended.
