Q. & A. with Brittany
Why did you start breeding?
I initially didn't get into Kishu to breed, but I fell so in love with the breed that it felt beneficial considering the few amount of breeders within the US. I want to see this breed continue to be around in 25-50 years, and they need help to do so! My male's breeder has been a wonderful asset and mentor to help me get started right.
What makes your program special?
My breeding program is special because I want to produce balanced individuals that can thrive as a pet, a hunting dog, and as a show and sport dog! Temperament and health is a priority to me, which will always come before type and color. While I do have a preference for sesame Kishu, I would never not include a white or red dog simply due to their color.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include white and sesame. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.

Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Patellar Luxation
Knee testing reduces the chance of passing down Patellar Luxation, which results in the kneecap becoming displaced or dislocated and can cause mild to severe joint pain.

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
