Meet the breeder

I'm Ruth S., the breeder behind Owl Ranch GSP located in Virginia Beach, VA. We are a small, dedicated kennel located in Eastern Virginia, proudly breeding and raising German Shorthaired Pointers. Owl Ranch is built on a passion for the breed’s versatility, drive, and companionship, designed to honor the GSP’s purpose while producing healthy, well-rounded dogs.

Q. & A. with Ruth

  • Why did you start breeding?

I began breeding out of a passion for German Shorthaired Pointers and a desire to preserve the health, temperament, and versatility of the breed. With my veterinary background, I wanted to combine knowledge and care to raise dogs that excel as companions, hunting partners, and competitors while upholding the highest standards.
  • What makes your program special?

My program focuses on breeding German Shorthaired Pointers with sound health, proven working ability, and stable temperaments. Every dog is fully health tested, and puppies are raised with early neurological stimulation, socialization, and exposure to real-life experiences—preparing them to succeed as hunters, competitors, and beloved family companions.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include liver roan, liver and white, black, black and white, liver, and black roan. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
