I'm Joe B., the breeder behind Packmaster GunDogs located in Rockford, MI. We firmly believe pudelpointers are the best versatile breed. Our dogs live in our home with the rest of their human pack. We test all of our dogs in the NAVHDA system and actively hunt upland birds and waterfowl with them throughout the state of Michigan and beyond.
Q. & A. with Joe
Why did you start breeding?
Frannie's incredible temperament, ease of training, and innate natural pointing, steadiness, and drive further cemented our love of the breed. We believe she is a great foundation to start a breeding program from to move the entire breed forward with the development of our line.
What makes your program special?
Our program is data driven and built on science and scrutinous analysis. We developed a software program to analyze pedigrees and test results from the entire NAVHDA registry for pudelpointers. We use this information, along with Embark DNA analysis, and owner/handler feedback to identify the top dogs in North America to breed with.
We use scientifically proven puppy development programs to ensure our puppies have the highest probability to reach their full potential.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include liver and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
Packmaster GunDogs reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Pudelpointers.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Brucellosis
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Full Embark Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
Health testing is one key piece of responsible breeding and is performed on breeding dogs to prevent the presence of heritable conditions in their puppies.
