I'm Julie R., the breeder behind Purely Opal located in Battle Ground, WA. Here at Purely Opal we are raising well socialized family friendly Portuguese Water Dogs. Our love for PWD’s has lead us to breeding with dedication and commitment. We are thrilled to share our dogs as they will become a wonderful addition to fit many different lifestyles.

Why did you start breeding?
In my growing up years my family had a purebred beagle. She had 2 litters of puppies. I was very hands with helping and the experience was joyful. This peaked my interest again in my early 20’s when I had a little Pomeranian Chihuahua. I bred her and just loved it all over again. Fast forward I have spent years in a career, raising my own family, and now this passion joyful passion is reawakened!What makes your program special?
We really focus on family dogs. After all that’s our dynamic. Everything in our household is focused around kids, dogs, fulfilling needs. Thats my main focus in our home. Our puppies are handled regularly, exposed to all the coming and going of people. While our puppies are young they are centrally located in our home. As they get bigger there is a wonderful space created for them outside.What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include black and white, black, and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
Getting a puppy from Julie
Julie has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.
After buyers complete the application and screening process, Julie partners with them to find the best puppy match.
“As I have interest and the ability to introduce families to puppies in person or via zoom we will start having conversation about what they desire in a dog. That will lead to how a dog is chosen and the preferred gender. As puppies begin to mature closer to 6 weeks the personalities, confidence, and playfulness will begin to stand out more. The deposit will hold the order in which puppies can be picked. ”
Price
“The price includes the guarante, AKC registration, first exam, round of vaccines, deworming, and socialization. The deposit holds a puppy from the current litter, with the option of transferring the deposit amount to a future litter.”

Parent health testing
Purely Opal reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Portuguese Water Dogs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
