I'm Chelsea J., the breeder behind Raindance Italian Greyhounds located in New York. I am a small, preservation breeder. I am active in showing in conformation. I am focused on breeding healthy dogs with sound temperaments. I try to do everything I can to better the breed in all departments. These dogs deserve nothing but the best chance in life. As a breeder, it is my responsibility to make sure that happens.
Q. & A. with Chelsea
Why did you start breeding?
I began going to dog shows as a teenager originally showing Dobermans. I met my first Italian Greyhound at the home of one of my Doberman breeders. I had no intention of becoming a breeder, but my first Italian Greyhound was a truly exceptional dog and through the guidance of my mentor (the breeder of my first IG), I was taught how to be responsible and breed better dogs.
What makes your program special?
Before any breeding combination is planned, an enormous amount of pedigree research is conducted. I study a minimum of 10 generations behind parents of prospective litters to try and make sure not only am I breeding beautiful dogs that conform to the Italian Greyhound breed standard, but also monitor hereditary issues and temperament problems through ancestry.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
