I'm Christina S., the breeder behind RCS Kennels located in Athens, GA. We believe in selectively breeding health tested dogs for conformation, temperament, and family companions. As a veterinarian, healthy well balanced dogs are the most important. We want to provide a long time new family companion that is healthy and will enjoy a full life in their new home.
Q. & A. with Christina
Why did you start breeding?
My first litters were when I was a teenager. I successfully found homes for all the puppies from both litters. Then after receiving my veterinary degree, getting married, and settling into our home, we knew the time was right. As a shelter veterinarian, I know the pet overpopulation issue intimately. Each breeding is carefully considered and every pet born here has a home here fore life.
What makes your program special?
We perform regular health checks on our pets, only breed health tested dogs, and provide a home for life no matter what comes up. Before opening their eyes each puppy goes through ENS exercises to encourage early social development. Once puppies are mobile, they are raised in the living room/kitchen and potty training starts too. Socialization is key and we are dedicated to well balanced puppies.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our Shetland Sheepdog puppies include sable merle and white, sable and white, blue merle white and tan, and black white and tan. Bullmastiff puppies include red fawn brindle, red fawn, red brindle, red, fawn brindle, and fawn. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.

About Hazelnut
Hazelnut is an easy girl to live with. She is in the smaller side (a mere 95 pounds) and is very much a dog that loves her family and is reserved with people she doesn’t know.
She has dabbled a little in performance but ultimately just wants to be at home with family.

Breeder-Reported Testing
Excellent level
RCS Kennels reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Bullmastiffs.
Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)
Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA)
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
DNA Disease Panel
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

Thanks to the Good Dog app, we learned about RCS Kennels’ newest Sheltie litter and found our perfect puppy! Christina Simpson, the RCS Breeder, was absolutely wonderful to work with and responded quickly (and very patiently) to all our numerous questions about the puppies. She continuously provided updates and pictures throughout the entire process and welcomed us to come visit the litter. Christina even took the puppies to a
Sheltie puppy social event and started using our pup’s new name as soon as we settled on one. When we went to pick up our 12-week old puppy, Christina gave us a small blanket with the pup’s mother’s scent and his favorite little toy, which helped with a totally problem-free transition. These little extra touches are what make Christina an exceptional breeder. We cannot say enough good things about how great it was to work with Christina Simpson and how thankful we are for our precious Sheltie!
