Breeder of German Shorthaired Pointers

Meet the breeder

I'm Julie G., the breeder behind Rollenwald located in Washtenaw County, MI. We are dedicated to producing valued and versatile hunting and family companions that can be trained to meet your hunting needs. From the sofa to the field, our dogs are members of the family and can do it all. We use the breeding regulations set forth by the Deutsch Kurzhaar Verband (DKV) and we are committed to maintaining, and improving, the qualities that make the DK/GSP the wonderfully versatile hunting dog it is today!

Q. & A. with Julie

  • Why did you start breeding?

The Deutsch Kurzhaar has become part of my soul. My heart is committed to continuing, promoting, and improving this amazing breed. I have been involved in handling, training, judging this versatile breed in a variety of capacities including conformation, tracking, obedience, rally, agility, and hunt tests. My goal is to breed to the standard set forth by the Deutsch Kurzhaar Verband and to produce amazing hunting dogs that are also a pleasure to have in your home!
  • What makes your program special?

My breeding program is founded on the rigorous evaluation of my dogs through hunting and testing in multiple venues. My puppies are raised in the home and given early socialization and training to be successful in the field, ring, agility course, or wherever your adventurous DK takes you!
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Great level

Rollenwald reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for German Shorthaired Pointers.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)

Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Brucellosis, Shoulder Osteochondrosis

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • PawPrint Genetic Panel (Breed Specific), Cone Degeneration, German Shorthaired Pointer Type

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
