Meet the breeder

I'm Shannon O., the breeder behind Rosais Acres LLC located in Eldora, IA. Welcome! I am located in North Central Iowa and breed AKC LUA and HUA Dalmatians. I discovered the love of breeding dogs while pursuing my degree in Animal Science with a focus on genetics and reproduction at Iowa State University (ISU).

Q. & A. with Shannon

  • Why did you start breeding?

While pursuing my degree I found that my favorite courses were consistently the genetics and reproduction courses offered. When the university had openings for hands-on breeding experiences I jumped at the opportunity and found that this was what made me truly happy.
  • What makes your program special?

I strive to produce only happy and healthy puppies. All dogs are carefully selected based on temperament, conformation, and genetics to try to obtain this goal. All puppies I produce are exposed to a wide variety of stimuli and situations to try to set them up to succeed in life, no matter what type of home they may go to.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies include white and liver brown and white and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Breeder-Reported Testing

Excellent level

Rosais Acres LLC reports to performing the health tests below on their breeding dogs. Ask your breeder about the tests performed on the parents of your litter. Learn more about health testing for Dalmatians.

  • Hip Dysplasia

Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Thyroid (Autoimmune Thyroiditis, registered with OFA), Congenital Deafness (BAER, registered with OFA)

A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • Hyperuricosuria (HUU), Full Embark Panel

Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
