I'm Jamie T., the breeder behind Saarinen Farm Kikos and Karakachans located in Phil Campbell, AL. We strive to produce Karachans who will be exceptional on the farm guarding livestock. Our breeding Karakachans are working livestock guardian dogs. Puppies will be exposed to goats and horses before leaving the farm, will receive puppy aptitude testing to help match to the perfect home.
Q. & A. with Jamie
Why did you start breeding?
Jam enjoyed working with Karakachan Livestock Guardian dogs at her parents farm in Virginia. She was pleased that her husband also enjoys having the Karakchan LGDs and Kiko goats since they got married and moved them to Alabama in 2020. Since Jam has a background in Animal Science and agriculture and veterinary medicine and both she and Jeff love the Karakachans, they decided to begin breeding.
What makes your program special?
Jam & Jeff do early neurogical stimulation on puppies which serves as a form of imprinting and helps puppies have an improved stress response later in life. Puppy aptitude testing will also be done on puppies to help determine a good home fit. Puppies come from working tested parents. Puppies will be registered and dewormed with initial puppy shots and microchipped.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies include tri-color and white and black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
