Karen Kirby has passed Good Dog’s screening process, which involved a review of their breeding practices, environment, and the mental and physical health of their dogs.

Glowworm is a really fun cool dog with great working drive but ready to drop everything and snuggle in my arms. A fabulous retriever Glowworms delivers whatever I ask for to my hands. Besides being an awesome dog she is bright and biddable having earned her Junior and Apprentice Water Dogs at 19 months she has since added Working and Working Water Dog Excellent to her resume! A great Mom, she has pointed get in the breed ring and titled family dogs. When the pandemic hit, Glowworm was the #15 PWD in the country in breed.

About Emily
Emily is an old soul born with maturity beyond her years and an exceptionally sound temperament. Especially calm and pleasant for a Portuguese Water Dog, Emily is friendly yet devoted to her Mom. A beautiful example of our breed standard Emily's showing has been limited first due to my having broken my right foot and them my left ankle as well as the Pandemic. She will be out in the ring again in August and September.

Hip Dysplasia
Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.
Elbow Dysplasia Finals (OFA, BVA, SV, FCI)
Elbow testing reduces the chance of passing down elbow dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause arthritis in the elbow joint and front leg lameness.
Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)
Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.
Temperament Test
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
Chondrodystrophy (CDDY and IVDD Risk) with or without Chondrodysplasia (CDPA), Early Onset Progressive Retinal Atrophy (EOPRA), Juvenile Dilated Cardiomyopathy, GM1 Gangliosidosis, Portuguese Water Dog Type, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)
Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
