I'm Naomi S., the breeder behind Sapphire Valley Great Pyrenees located in Sapphire, NC. Our pups work and interact with sheep, cattle, goats, poultry, donkeys, cats and children every day, displaying calm confidence and responsibility from birth. Pups are trained by resident adult LGDs to become dependable guardians—protective yet gentle with the animals and families in their care.
Q. & A. with Naomi
Why did you start breeding?
We quickly fell in love with the breed for their intelligence, fierce protection, and unwavering loyalty. They work around the clock, remaining vigilant. They are quick to organize--our current alpha is a female who directs the others into action. When predators approach, our dogs organize: two rush toward the offenders, one pushes mid-field, and two remain with the livestock. WE LOVE OUR PYRS...
What makes your program special?
We raise purebred Great Pyrenees with care, integrity and a deep respect for their ancient role as livestock guardians. We breed selectively for intelligence, temperament, health and strong work instinct.
What are the different breed coat colors in your program?
Our puppies are white and badger. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home and guardian homes.
