    We wanted to do our part to better the breed. Our breeding program strives to maintain the unique characteristics of the Portuguese Water Dog while placing an emphasis on producing puppies of superior health, temperament, and conformation. We have built our love and respect for PWDs into every aspect of our breeding program.

    Seaworthy PWD is committed to only breeding dogs that meet the strict guidelines for quality that we have deemed appropriate to improving this wonderful breed. Welcoming a PWD puppy into your lives, home, and heart is a huge undertaking and blessing, and we strive to find the right match for every puppy and its new family.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies are black. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

    They live in my home.

  • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Eye Certification (CAER, registered with OFA)

    Eye testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide range of hereditary eye illnesses including retinal dysplasia, lens luxation, and glaucoma, which can cause impared vision or blindness.

  • Chondrodystrophy and IVDD Risk (CDDY-IVDD), Microphthalmia Syndrome (PES), Early Onset Progressive Retinal Atrophy (EOPRA), PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd), Juvenile Dilated Cardiomyopathy, GM1 Gangliosidosis, Portuguese Water Dog Type

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).
