I'm Stacy L., the breeder behind Stacy's PWD Portuguese Water Dogs located in Des Moines, IA. Stacy's Portuguese Water Dogs are raised in a healthy home environment and are kept busy with activities like going to the dog park, swimming, scent work training, obedience training, and playing fetch. Our dogs are happiest when they are learning or cuddling.

  • Why did you start breeding?

    We got into breeding because we love Portuguese Water Dogs and want to enhance and add to breed development by breeding dogs with the best traits. We want our dogs to be excellent family companions. We work with our dogs through training so they can be best they can be.

  • What makes your program special?

    Our dogs live with us and our puppies are raised within our family. This encourages them to become better-adjusted dogs. We are aware of the development stages of the puppies, and expose them to various sounds and experiences so they are prepared for their new families. This includes, fireworks, city sounds, vacuums, car rides, farm animal sounds, etc.

  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

    Our puppies include brown and white, black and white, white, and brown. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.

  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.

Getting a puppy from Stacy

Stacy has been certified by Good Dog’s screening team for responsible and trusted breeding practices. When you’re ready, reach out to ask about the puppies or anything else on your mind. You’ll get to know each other through messaging, phone, or video and pay securely, all on Good Dog.

Stacy partners with buyers to find the best match as the puppies develop and their personalities take shape. Typically, matches are finalized when the puppies reach about 6 weeks old.

Price

Puppy prices include a $500 refundable deposit and $3,000 final payment, before taxes & fees.

“The price includes 8 weeks of socialization, initial kennel training, initial potty training, puppy pack to go home, vaccinations, AKC registration, microchip with AKC and microchip registration. We also help absorb delivery fees and are willing to meet you part-way to pick up your puppy if needed. If you need a few more days to get your puppy, we usually waive additional boarding fees. Puppy deposit is completely refundable unless you pick out a puppy and hold it for a week or more; keeping it from getting a home.”

Stacy may provide a written contract or health guarantee when you purchase a puppy. This helps protect both you and your breeder, ensuring that you both have a clear understanding of the terms of your puppy purchase.   • Hip Dysplasia

    Hip testing reduces the chance of passing down hip dysplasia, which is primarily found in large breed dogs and can cause hip pain and the eventual loss of the function of the hip joint.

  • Cardiac Evaluation (registered with OFA)

    Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.

  • Brucellosis

    A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.

  • GM1 Gangliosidosis, Portuguese Water Dog Type, Dilated Cardiomyopathy 1 (DCM1), PennGen, PRA, Rod-Cone Degeneration (PRA-prcd)

    Genetic testing reduces the chance of passing down a wide variety of hereditary diseases of differing prevalence and severity such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (an eye disease) and Von Willebrand's Disease (a blood disease).

    We are so happy with our puppy Mac from Stacy's PWD Portuguese Water Dogs litter from February, 2024. Stacy was a pleasure to work with. She gave frequent updates from before their birth and throughout their first 8 weeks until we picked him up. She was available for any questions after we brought him home and is kind to check in on us. Stacy was prompt and clear with all her communications and very transparent with the whole process. Her frequent Facebook updates were a pleasure. It was so great following the puppies' progress through their first 8 weeks and to learn what she was doing to expose them to noises, introducing them to solid foods, stairs, etc. We brought home such a well rounded pup! He's been a pleasure to add to our family and we are so happy we chose to get a puppy from Stacy!
