I'm Janet S., the breeder behind Tenajeff Lagottos located in Rocklin, CA. The Lagotto Romagnolo is the only purebred dog in the world recognized as a specialized truffle searcher. The Lagotto is believed to be the founding breed from which all water dogs descend. There are six color standards in the AKC Lagotto breed description; brown, brown roan, off-white, orange, white and brown, and white and orange.
Q. & A. with Janet
Why did you start breeding?
I had at the perfect Poodle as a girl growing up. My first breed as a young adult was a Lhasa Apso. I had a wonderful breeder who introduced me to the AKC dog shows and then mentored me with breeding my first litter of Lhasa Apsos. A knowledgable breeder, she taught me well and later I mentored with other breeders, learning different skill sets. I trained in Italy to know Lagotto.
What makes your program special?
I am a Puppy Culture Breeder and raised with the PC program, in our home. Socialization and communication are key. Our dogs are shown to AKC championships and IABCA titles. We volunteer with RMHNC, hospice, and senior care facilities as therapy dogs. Puppies are truffle trained and don't leave until weeks 10-12. We offer training, grooming, dietary, and more as support to our families.
Where do your breeding dogs live?
They live in my home.
