I'm Mark S., the breeder behind Timber Trail located in Ashford, CT. Unlike other hunting breeds, the Small Munsterlander is not high strung indoors but when taken out in the field. Our goal is to produce active healthy hunting companions that will be your partner both in the field and the home. While our dogs make great home companions (coach potatoes), they are bred to be fantastic hunting dogs and as such need regular exercise off leash. Timber Trail's is a member of the Genetic Health Project and of the Cooperating Breeders Group, of the SMCA and there is no incidence of hip dysplasia in the ancestors of our dogs pedigrees. The purpose of our breeding program is to produce pups of sound conformation with excellent instinct to point, retrieve, track, and swim. This is a breed that is very active in the field but has an off switch which makes them easy to live with in the home as long as they receive proper exercise. They live to hunt and that is when they are happiest. To date our kennel has produced 3 NAVHDA VC’s (Versatile Champions) the highest level of achievement in the NAVHDA hunt testing system. Approximately 2 dozen SM’s have achieved this level of recognition to date.

Heart testing reduces the chance of passing down congenital heart disease, which can cause a range of symptoms ranging from trouble exercising to heart failure.
Vet Wellness Exam
A breeder may perform additional tests on their dogs that do not fall into these general categories. These tests may be more uncommon or very specific to a particular breed.
