Up A Creek Kennels

Kelsey W.

Breeder of Portuguese Water Dogs

Meet the breeder

I'm Kelsey W., the breeder behind Up A Creek Kennels located in Pasadena, MD. I focus on breeding healthy and well-socialized dogs with great temperaments. I take great pride in my work with my dogs! I am dedicated to providing owners with a healthy and stable puppy and providing support for the lifetime of the dog. I also want to help encourage owners of my puppies to experience dog sports and see firsthand the great athleticism of PWDs. I want to help expose them to as many as possible!

Q. & A. with Kelsey

  • Why did you start breeding?

I have been mentored in the breed and many sports by a close community of fellow Portuguese Water Dog owners. I became interested in breeding to help contribute to the breed through ethical and thoughtful breeding practices. I have the support of several longtime and established breeders who have guided me through the process starting with encouraging research and health testing.
  • What makes your program special?

My female PWD, Jetty, is on the lower end of the breed standard in terms of weight. I believe there are some PWD that are a bit too big, in terms of size, and I hope that I can contribute to the breed by producing PWDs in the middle of the breed standard and not pushing too close to the far end.
  • What are the different breed coat colors in your program?

Our puppies are black and white. Colors will vary depending on the parent dogs.
  • Where do your breeding dogs live?

    They live in my home.
